However, with lots of network marketing opportunities and online marketing gurus promising “the best business,” how do you know which ones to trust?
After all, these opportunities comes with a successful direct sales gurus behind them, and they all one looks like winners. Don’t they?
So, where does that leave you?
Whether you are a beginner or pro, self-employment has lots of obstacles and limited options. But from experience, here are some immediate advice to help you from common mistake that most people make. I made my share of them too.
DEFINE YOUR AUTHORITY
Because it plays to your strength.
Simply put, what are you really good at doing and can improve on? Mind you, there is a whole difference in what you’d like to do versus what you are good at doing. What you like to do is a hobby, but what you are good at doing is your core value to society. And that should be your theme, the orbit around which your service to society should revolve.
Back in high school I had a principal and he was famous for repeating to us every morning: Dara Rara, according to him, it meant order is the first law in heaven.
I grew up cultivating the seed that the first principle of success is orderliness. I was not totally good at it, but hey I’m always improving.
So if you have the budget, I’d suggest that you incorporate your business according your local business laws. These laws vary from State to State, country to country and in some cases municipalities as well. Incorporating your business give you an aura of authority, provides respect in the business community. But most importantly it insulates you from unnecessary legal problems down the road. If you reside in the United States of America, you may well do a simple Google search and you choose the company that appeals to you.
You can also picking up a kit from your local stationary suppliers and help yourself. For best results, let the professional do it for you. You’ll spare yourself plenty of trouble.
WHAT’S YOUR TRIBE?
Keep this in mind, it’s very important.
Seek the company of like-minded people whose success record you’d like to pattern after. Study them, follow then on twitter, do all your best to be within influence. Leave quality comments on their blogs if they have one. All successful people were once apprentices in one form or another. You’ll learn a lot from these simple mundane exercises.
I recommend that you stick with one teacher or guru who has documented proof to back up their income beyond selling kits or ebooks on how to make money.
One secret that you’ve got to know, is that a lot people who claim to make money online for instance, are just selling recycled materials to Pavlovian opportunity seekers. The internet is littered with many gurus. Just like their offline counterparts in multi-level marketing who make money selling membership kits to their down line instead of real products.
Next, surround yourself with good supporting casts. Consciously seek the friendship of other professionals whose services you need. Accountants, Websites Designers and Copywriters easily come to mind as people you should network with, possibly to hire their services or do work exchange if you are short on capital.
Start with a community or local banks where you are known and can easily obtain personal attention and early referrals for your services or products. This will provide crucial testimonial you need to reach the world. Equally important, you should try to open up a business PayPal account where it is available. For receiving or sending out payments, you need a standard payment authority and PayPal for now is the place to go.
SET UP A BLOG
Every business should have a self-hosted blog. They are very affordable these days. Then communicate to the world the value you have to offer. If you have add a great value to the world, you will be accordingly rewarded. As you become efficient in communicating through your blog and others in your sphere, you will grow your purse and self-employment will no longer be dream but a reality to be grateful for.
There are two free tutorials you can use right now to help you get started in setting up your blog. I used both of them when I first started. First is BecomeABlogger.com by Yaro Starak and Gideon Shalwick. Second is IdiotProofBlogging.com by Craig Desorcy.
Now, let’s recap.
Self-employment is not that complicated.
Finally, you’ve got to look at any enterprise you eventually choose as a job. Yes, a job where you write your own check, it is not a “family and friends thing” — it’s should be a conscious exercise in how you can communicate, persuade and earn trust.
Trust begins with authority, which in turn leads to persuasion. These are the two pillars upon which you can effectively communicate your brand and reap rewards.
Provide great value to the world. Organize the delivery of that service and you are set for a life of happiness. According to Steve Pavlina, who will never trade the joy and rewards of being self-employed for a mere weekly pay check.
